Happy New Year y’all!
I’ve decided to resurrect this blog one last time because 1) it’s a new year and 2) I really want to give this blog another shot. A shot with more effort than I exuded last year. In New Years fashion, I’ve decided to share my top 3 goals for Cultured Mosaic this year.
PROVIDE CONSISTENT CONTENT
I know I mentioned last year that I wanted to create new content twice a week. Clearly that goal was not achieved. All shade towards myself. So 2016 is the year of execution.
ATTEND ARTS EXPERIENCES
I hibernated in 2015. I didnt feel like going many places. But this year, I want to attend more art exhibitions, dance performances, concerts, orchestra performances. I’ve signed up for a ton of newsletters to stay updated on local performances. As a result, I hope to share these experiences on the blog as well.
SUPPORT BLACK ARTISTS
This blog has allowed to find some dope artists and of course I can support them by sharing their work on the blog but I would like to take it a step further by putting money in their pockets & purchasing their work.
I hope all your dreams and goals come true and I hope that you work hard to make them a reality!
In August, I had this idea of blogging 2 days a week. Then I got a new job and that idea went out the window because I had no idea what I was in for. It’s been 3 months since my last post and ironically enough, also 3 months since I started my new job and I finally feel things are in a good place at work to ramp this blog up once again. (They say the third time’s the charm. 😉 ) However, with more intention and action and less talk that I did here and also here.
I’m super excited to share content with you all! I’m focusing on having more fun with it this time around. I’m also taking a course to help me out with this whole blogging thing.
Above everything, I want to finish strong.
I’ve been watching so many Periscopes lately about intention and consistency. If you are not familiar, Periscope is new app that allows people to broadcast live, very similar to Ustream but a better interface. No shade. Anyways my intention to blog is there but the consistency, eh, not so much. Consistency is where I struggle but what helps consistency is preparation. Or as Mattie of Mattieologie.com says, consistency is the direct product of work ethic. Continue reading
Hey there! I know I know…it’s been awhile. Three months to be exact. Longer than I initially anticipated yet the right amount of time needed to recalibrate. Since the last post, I’ve gotten married, saw my brother graduate from basic training, moved into a new place, help plan a birthday celebration for my cousin, organize Mother’s Day, host friends for Memorial Day weekend, plan and execute a HUGE social media campaign for work and celebrate my birthday. I turned 27 hence the post title. So you can see that the last couple months have been crazy for me. In the midst of the craziness of life, I kept thinking about this blog and its purpose. Basically the why. Was I doing it to receive accolades or was I doing it because I’m passionate about sharing OUR stores as it relates to art, design and culture. I did some soul searching and decided that the accolades may or may not come but I am committed to sharing our stories. Stories of black artists, black designers and black culture. My hubby teases me that I am so passionate about celebrating #blackexcellence. And my reply is if not me, then who? With all the negative portrayals of people of color, I want to celebrate our achievements. Especially in this realm of art, design and culture. And I want to use to this blog as the platform for that realm. When I think of black travel, I think of Travel Noire. When people think of black art, design and culture, I want them to think Cultured Mosaic. Consider this the rebirth.
In less than a week, I say I do to the love of my life. Hence my absence from the blog. I thought I would be able to plan the final details of my wedding, work full time, blog twice a week, and spend quality time with my family and beau. In an ideal world I probably could. But going from fittings to tastings to vendor meetings to designing stationary, left me tired and void of energy. So bear with me as I’m beginning a chapter as a wife, I promise to be back soon (soon meaning middle to late March). I have some cool projects and content to share. Stay tuned!
Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. I had special post for Christmas in my drafts that didn’t quite publish. Eh such is life. Lol. 2014 was interesting year! Many highs, lows and in betweens. One of the highs being launching this blog. Honestly I don’t even know why I allowed fear to hold me back from launching it especially since I’ve had this blog as an idea for about two years. Within these two months, I’ve received great reviews even a nice tweet from director of Beyond the Lights, saying how she liked my blog post. Definitely a highlight! I haven’t been as consistent as I would like but I’m getting married in March so bear with me until then.
I can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store. I do know that I’m going into this new year with a plan. I bought this awesome blog content planner that I’m excited to use. Of course more *consistent* posts, fresh content, a new design. So cheers to the new year!
In light of what’s going on in Ferguson, I’m still thankful. It’s difficult but I am. Thankful that I have breath to blow. Thankful that even though the decision didn’t go the way that I would’ve liked, God is still in the midst. Sometimes it’s difficult to see Him through all the pain and turmoil but He’s there. After the verdict, I broke down after telling my little brother he mattered. But I’m thankful that I could tell him he mattered. This holiday season hug your loved ones a little closer and tell them their lives matter. I’ll be spending some time in the country with my future in-laws/in-loves for Thanksgiving. Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
