Ebony Fashion Fair Exhibit Comes To Atlanta

I remember being excited when the monthly issues of Ebony would come through the mail. I was fascinated by the images of black beauty on those pages. Not to mention the recent design overhaul under the tutelage of Amy Dubois Barnett, former Editor in Chief, stimulates my visual senses. The bold typeface choices plus the layout grids. A designer’s delight. I digress.  I’m proud to share this new exhibit at the Museum of Design, Inspiring Beauty: 50 Years of Ebony Fashion Fair.

This exhibition “honors the traveling fashion show that brought European couture fashions to the African-American community.” It’s said the co-founder of Ebony Magazine, Eunice Johnson, would speak with European designers such as Yves St. Laurent and Valentino to convince the designers to sell their high fashion to black women. Interesting right?

The exhibit opened last Friday and is here until January 4, 2015. With garments created by Yves Saint-Laurent, Christian Dior, the late Oscar de la Renta, this exhibit seems like it won’t disappoint.
